Road Trippin’: Burnsville to Rochester, Minnesota

Are you ready for a road trip? If you're planning on heading from Burnsville to Rochester, Minnesota, there are a few different routes you can take. Each option has its own unique advantages and disadvantages. Here's what you need to know, so you can choose the route that's best for you.

Option 1: Taking the Scenic Route

If you have some extra time to spare, consider taking the scenic route. From Burnsville, hop onto I-35 South and follow this highway for about 17 miles. Take exit 69 to US-52 South and continue down this highway for about 75 miles. This route will take you through farms, rolling hills, and quaint small towns.

The downside? This is the longest route, taking approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. But don’t let that discourage you! This is a great option if you're looking for a leisurely drive to soak in the picturesque views and breathe in fresh air.

Option 2: The Fastest Route

If you're in a rush, hop onto I-35 South and follow it for about 10 miles. Take exit 85 to MN-77 South and follow it for about 14 miles until you get to MN-13 South. Turn right and follow this highway for about 53 miles. This is the fastest route, taking only about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The downside? It can be a bit monotonous as you’ll spend most of the time on highways without any notable attractions. However, if speed is what you're looking for, this route is a sure-fire solution.

Option 3: The Scenic Shortcut

If you're looking for a scenic route that is a little bit shorter, consider taking County Road 21 South. From Burnsville, head out on County Road 5, which will take you to County Road 21 South. Turn left on this highway and continue for about 59 miles until you join MN-52 South, which will lead you straight to Rochester.

This is a great option if you're looking for a shortcut that still gives you the opportunity to enjoy the scenic views. This route takes about 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Bonus Tip: Where to Stop Along the Way

If you have extra time, make a pit stop at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, located about 45 minutes from Burnsville. This park is a great place to stretch your legs and soak in nature’s beauty.

If you’re a water enthusiast, Cannon Lake is a great spot to enjoy water sports like fishing, kayaking or paddleboarding. It's located just off MN-13 and County Road 88.

If you’re a museum lover, stop in at the SPAM Museum located in Austin, Minnesota, just off I-90. It is a fun and interactive museum celebrating the iconic canned meat.
