Road Trip from Buffalo to Medina: Take Your Time and Enjoy the Ride

Planning a road trip from Buffalo, New York to the Village of Medina, New York? Good news! The drive will take you through some beautiful scenery and fascinating landmarks. Whether you have a full day or a few hours to spare, we’ve got you covered with tips on routes, distances, and driving times.

Route 1: The Scenic Route

If you’re looking for a leisurely drive with breathtaking views, then our first recommendation is Route 31. This route spans 40 miles from Buffalo to Medina and offers picturesque views of farms, streams, and quaint small towns.

The drive takes about an hour. But we suggest you take your time and stop for a couple of amazing local experiences. First, make your way to the whimsical and delightful Wayside Farm Market, which is about fifteen minutes north of Batavia. This market is known for its homemade pies, jams, and bread – so make sure you grab some for the road. There's also a petting zoo on the premises which makes it a great family stop.

Next, you must check out the mysterious Medina Railroad Museum. This museum is housed in an old train station, and all the exhibits revolve around the fascinating world of trains and railroads. You can walk through the various train cars, the elaborate gift shop or view one of the largest collections of railroad lanterns in the world.

Route 2: The Quick Route

If you're the type of traveler who prefers to get to their destination quickly, then our second option is for you. Take Route 63 south and then hook up with Route 31 east into the village.

This route will give you a shorter distance of around 35 miles. It will also cut your driving time by about twenty minutes, getting you to Medina in about 40 minutes. But, be warned: this route has much less scenery and fewer local flavors. However, that's not to say there isn't one cool and quirky stop on your way that is guaranteed to make you laugh – The World’s Largest Garden Gnome! Just off Route 63 in Batavia, you will come across Art Cooley’s Gnome House and Sculpture Garden where you can get your home garden decorator heart racing while viewing one of the strangest attractions in Western New York.

Route 3: The Fastest Route

Our last option is geared towards those who have a time crunch and requiring a much faster route. Drive west on I-90, then south on Route 77, then east on Route 63.

This is the quickest way to get to Medina, taking about 30 minutes and covering a distance of approximately 31 miles. It’s a good idea to fill up with gas before leaving Buffalo, as there are no gas stations along the freeway. There aren't many stops worth mentioning on this route, so we’d recommend just focusing your trip and taking your time once you arrive in the Village.

Final Thoughts

Regardless of which route you choose, it's a road trip that can be customized based on your preferences. Take your time and enjoy the scenery or push the pedal to the metal to arrive quickly. Whatever your priorities are, make space to explore the many hidden gems en route. However, we highly recommend checking the times of any attractions or restaurants, in case of holiday closures or busy times. Relax, and have fun on your adventure, knowing that you’ll always have something to enjoy along the way.
