The Scenic Route from Brick to Highlands: How to Get There and What to See along the Way

If you're planning on traveling from Brick Township to Highlands in New Jersey, there are several options to choose from. Whether you're looking for the fastest route or a leisurely drive with beautiful views, we've got you covered. In this article, we'll explore the best routes to take and some of the must-see sights along the way.

The Fastest Route

If you're short on time and just want to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible, the fastest route is via NJ-35 S. From Brick Township, merge onto NJ-35 S and follow it for about 16 miles until you reach Highlands. This route takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

While NJ-35 S is not especially scenic, it does pass by a few notable landmarks, such as the Garden State Parkway and the Bayshore Waterfront Park. If you're looking for a quick and easy drive, this is the route for you.

The Scenic Route

For those who have a bit more time and want to enjoy some beautiful scenery along the way, we recommend taking the Ocean Boulevard route. Head east on Mantoloking Road, then turn right onto Ocean Road – you'll pass by many beautiful homes and gorgeous ocean views. You'll eventually come to a roundabout – take the second exit onto Ocean Boulevard. Follow this scenic road for 20 miles until you reach Highlands.

The Ocean Boulevard route will take approximately 45 minutes, but it's worth the extra time for the breathtaking scenery. Along the way, you'll pass by several beaches, including Normandy Beach and Lavallette, as well as several oceanfront parks, such as Island Beach State Park.

The Local Route

If you're looking to support local businesses along the way, the local route is for you. This route will take you along Rt 88 West – a local road that passes through several towns and business districts. From Brick Township, head west on Chambers Bridge Road and turn right onto Beaverson Boulevard. Follow Rt 88 West for about 12 miles, and then turn left onto Portland Road. Continue on Portland Road until you reach Highlands.

This route takes about 35-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Along the way, you'll pass by several small towns, such as Lakewood and Point Pleasant, where you'll find many locally-owned restaurants, shops, and other businesses.

Places to Stop along the Way

No matter which route you choose, there are several must-see sights along the way. If you take the Ocean Boulevard route, be sure to stop at Island Beach State Park, where you can enjoy a picnic lunch or take a swim in the ocean. If you're traveling along NJ-35 S, the Bayshore Waterfront Park in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown is another great spot to stretch your legs and take in the views.

If you take the local route, Point Pleasant Beach is a great place to stop for a bite to eat – you'll find plenty of restaurants along the boardwalk, many of which serve fresh seafood.

No matter which route you take, there is something for everyone between Brick Township and Highlands. Whether you're in search of breathtaking ocean views or locally-owned businesses, you're sure to find it along the way. Happy travels!
