Route 1: The Quickest and Easiest

This route takes you on I-90 West, which means limited stops and highway driving. The distance is about 95 miles and will take you approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Depending on traffic, it can take more or less time.

If you're in a hurry, this route is perfect. You won't have to worry too much about stops or traffic lights. However, the downside is that you won't be able to appreciate the scenic routes. The only stop worth considering is the Riverside Park in Springfield, which is worth taking a break and getting some fresh air.

Route 2: Good Ol' Scenic

Another route that you can opt for when driving from Boston to Montague is the scenic one. This route will be approximately 115 miles and take you through I-90 West to Route 202 towards Belchertown. Then go through Belchertown by taking Route 9 West, and after approximately 7 miles, you are in Reardon Square in Amherst. From here, take Route 63 North, and in about 15 minutes, you will be in Montague.

This route is the best if you want to appreciate the scenery while on the road trip. It takes you through the scenic town of Belchertown, which is known for its stunning waterfalls. You could also make some pit stops at some of the vineyards and small towns along the way.

Route 3: Quaint and Rural

The third route to consider is taking Route 2 West. The distance is approximately 110 miles and will take you through small town roads with scenic views. It's great if you want to experience rural Massachusetts and explore the state's endless winding roads.

This route is more scenic than taking the highway but is still relatively quicker than Route 2. If you're looking for a taste of history on your way to Montague, you could stop by Harvard University, which is one of the country's oldest universities. In addition, Mount Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts, is a must-see spot on this journey.

No matter which route you choose for your road trip, giving yourself enough time and flexibility to exploring the area on your way there is important. Be sure to bring a map, your favorite snacks, and some good music. Happy travels!
