If you’re in the mood for a pit stop, you can visit the famous Clam Box in Ipswich or the historic town of Newburyport.

Route 2: US-1 N

If you want to avoid tolls and take a more scenic route, go via Route 1. The distance is approximately 55 miles and takes about two hours. You’ll pass through many popular towns, including Chelsea and Lynn, with picturesque views of the ocean. On this route, you can stop at Salem and visit the famous Peabody Essex Museum or take a detour to explore Gloucester, a quaint fishing village famous for its lobster.

Route 3: I-93 N and I-95 S

When you reach Exit 7, take the Route 101 W exit towards Hampton Beach. You’ll pass the scenic historic town of Exeter, where you can visit the Phillips Exeter Academy or the American Independence Museum.

Public transportation

If you would rather skip out on the driving, you can take the C&J Bus or the Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail to Newburyport Station and then take a taxi or Uber to Hampton Beach. The C&J Bus offers a direct service from Boston to Hampton Beach, which takes about an hour and twenty minutes. The commuter rail takes about an hour and a half, but offers stunning views of the coastline.
