Southern Route

Another option is taking the southern route on I-10 West. This route will take you approximately 1,900 miles. Although it doesn't have as many major tourist attractions as Route 66, this route gives you the opportunity to enjoy the Gulf Coast and take in the scenery of the southwest. We recommend taking a detour to see the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, and experiencing The Alamo in San Antonio, Texas.

Northern Route

Finally, if you're looking for a scenic drive that goes through rugged mountain ranges, consider taking the northern route on I-40 West. This route takes you through Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. With a total distance of about 2,300 miles, this route takes you through the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains and the Grand Canyon. We suggest taking a break in Albuquerque, New Mexico to check out the historic Old Town and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center.
