Hitting the road for a trip from Bolivar, Missouri to Mount Vernon, Illinois requires a bit of thought, since there are a few different routes you could take. Route 2: MO-13 N and I-55 S
Option two is a little different, as it takes you through the heart of St. Louis, and for those with a sense of adventure, this is perfect. Heading towards Mount Vernon, Illinois, this route comprises of MO-13 N and I-55 S. The drive is about 300 miles, and the journey is expected to take just over 4 hours in duration, making it just a bit longer than the first option.
Catch a Cardinals game in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, indulge in some local specialties such as toasted ravioli or gooey butter cake, and then head 64 miles south on I-55 S to Mount Vernon, Illinois. In addition to exploring and enjoying the Gateway City on your stopover in Missouri, the charming historical town of Ste. Genevieve, about an hour south of St. Louis, may be a worthwhile stop. Take a stroll along the Mississippi River, grab lunch at a local diner, and visit some of the art galleries and antique shops on it.
Route 3: US-160 E and I-55 S
For those who want to enjoy some breathtaking scenic views, the third Route option may be the one for you. This option comprises of US-160 E and I-55 S, and it takes you through the Mark Twain National Forest and the Shawnee National Forest. The drive is a total of 342 miles and will take approximately 5 hours and 15 minutes to complete.
View and explore the vast wilderness of the Ozarks on US-160 E. Stopover at the Grand Gulf State Park in Thayer, Missouri to view the stunning geological formations. From there, move on to the Mississippi River and then head south on I-55 S for 104 miles to reach Mount Vernon, IL. During the drive, pull over and view the rolling hills of the Shawnee National Forest.
