The Scenic Route: A Journey from Boiling Spring Lakes, NC to Myrtle Beach, SC

Are you planning a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina but don't want to take the most direct route? Why not take the scenic route from Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina? It might add a little bit of time to your trip, but it's definitely worth it!

Route 1 - The Direct Route

The most direct route takes you down US-17 S for approximately 52 miles and should take you about an hour. While this route is the shortest, it can get quite busy during peak season, so be prepared for traffic. If you're looking for a quick way to get to the beach, this route is for you.

Route 2 - The Coastal Route

If you're looking for a more scenic route, take US-17 S down to NC-211, then turn right onto NC-87 S. This route will take you through Southport, past the Oak Island Lighthouse, and over the Intracoastal Waterway. Continue down this route until you get to US-17 Business, where you'll turn right. Take this route until you get to Myrtle Beach. This route is approximately 65 miles and should take you about 1 hour and 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Along this route, there are plenty of places to stop and stretch your legs. Southport is a quaint coastal town that's worth a stop. Check out the Waterfront Park and browse the shops on Howe Street. For a bite to eat, we recommend the Fishy Fishy Cafe, where you can enjoy fresh seafood and beautiful views of the water.

Route 3 - The Scenic Route

For the ultimate road trip, take Route 3. It's the longest of the three routes, but it's also the most scenic. Take NC-87 S from Boiling Spring Lakes and follow it all the way down to US-17 S. Turn right on US-17 S and take it until you get to Ocean Isle Beach. Turn left onto NC-179, then right onto Beach Drive SW. Follow this road until you get to N Myrtle Beach, where you'll turn right onto US-17 Business. This route is approximately 70 miles and should take you about 2 hours, depending on traffic and how many times you stop to take pictures.

Along this route, you'll drive through the quaint towns of Supply, Shallotte, and Calabash. Stop in Calabash for some famous seafood. The Calabash Seafood Hut is a local favorite. Ocean Isle Beach is also worth a stop. Take a walk on the beach or grab a bite to eat at the Pelican's Perch, where you can enjoy ocean views while you eat.
