The scenic route

If you're looking for a scenic drive, take US-14 W from Bloomer to La Crosse, where you'll pick up US-61 S. Drive along the Mississippi River and enjoy the views until you reach Hannibal, Missouri. Keep following US-61 S and US-136 W until you reach Omaha. This route is approximately 780 miles, and depending on your pace and stops, you could drive it anywhere from 12 to 15 hours. But don't worry, as you'll be passing through charming towns and natural attractions. Don't forget to stop and take in the awe-inspiring views of the Mississippi River and mark Hannibal’s landmarks, the birthplace of Mark Twain.

The short and sweet route

If you're in a hurry, the fastest route to Omaha is via I-94 W and I-29 S. The drive will take you through Fargo, ND, and Sioux Falls, SD, and only 730 miles total. Driving straight through could take you 10 to 11 hours, but you could make a quick stop in Fargo to take a picture of the famous Fargo Theatre and grab a quick bite.

The middle way

If you want to split the difference between the above two routes, you can take a route that will let you experience some of America's most quintessential views but still not add too many extra miles. Start out in Bloomer and take I-94 W to Eau Claire, then continue on WI-312 W until you reach MN-95 and follow this route until you reach Minneapolis. While in Minneapolis, stop at the famous Mall of America and walk around the city’s beautiful skyscrapers. Then follow I-35 S and I-90 W, passing by the tranquil Lake Shetek in Westbrook, MN. Finally, merge onto I-29 S in South Dakota and towards Omaha. This route is at total 707 miles with 11-12 hours of driving time, depending on stops.
