Taking this route gives you the opportunity to stop at Roanoke, Virginia, nicknamed the ‘Star City' due to its iconic neon sign atop Mill Mountain. We recommend stopping for a quick lunch and enjoying the view of Roanoke from the Star at the Roanoke Star and Overlook.

Route 4: Taking the I-81 S, US-460 E, and US-220 S

The I-81 S, US-460 E, and US-220 S route is the least trekked, approximately 172 miles long, but takes around 3 hours and 21 minutes to drive because of its small town and back roads. However, this route provides you with the opportunity to drive through the gorgeous scenic Virginia countryside. We recommend stopping at Floyd Countryside Store for a hearty breakfast, buying some fresh produce or taking home a souvenir to remember the trip.
