Road Trippin' from Berlin to Somerville: How Long Will It Take?

Welcome to my latest road trip adventure! This time, I'll be driving from Berlin, Massachusetts to Somerville, Massachusetts. I decided to document the journey and share it with you all. Just a heads up - I anticipate a lot of traffic, so let's see how long it takes to get there!

The Fastest Route

If you're looking for the quickest way to get from Berlin to Somerville, then I recommend taking the MA-2 E and I-93 S route. It covers around 50 miles. You'll encounter little to no traffic, and you'll arrive in Somerville in approximately 1 hour. This is the ideal route for those who have places to be and people to see.

The Slowest Route

When it comes to this route, I don't recommend it unless you have plenty of time to spare. The slowest way to get to Somerville from Berlin is by taking the MA-62 W route. It's around 22 miles and takes approximately 45 minutes without traffic. However, if you run into heavy traffic, the drive could take up to an hour and a half. This is the route to take if you're not in any hurry and want to enjoy a scenic drive.

Traffic Patterns

As I mentioned, I anticipate a lot of traffic on this journey. So, let's talk about the traffic patterns. Generally, the best time to hit the road is between 9 am and 3 pm. During this time, traffic is the lightest. However, if you get on the road during rush hour, which is between 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, be prepared to sit in traffic.

Low Traffic Times

If you leave Berlin, MA around 11:00 am, you can expect to arrive in Somerville around noon. The traffic would be minimal and won't have to battle for road space.

Peak Traffic Times

If you leave Berlin, MA at 7:30 am, you can expect to arrive in Somerville approximately two hours later, due to traffic congestion. It's best to avoid rush hour times when traveling on the I-93 S and MA-2 E route.

Final Thoughts

It may seem like a small journey, but the traffic can make all the difference in how long it takes you to get somewhere. No matter which route you choose, be sure to double-check traffic reports before leaving. Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination, so let's enjoy the ride!
