Route 2: M-14 W

This is a somewhat longer but more scenic route. Driving along M-14 W will take you through the rolling hills and lush forests of lower Michigan. At a distance of 57 miles, this route offers a picturesque landscape and easy driving conditions.

Tips:

  1. If you need to stretch your legs, stop by the Barton Nature Area in Ann Arbor. Stretching over 102 acres, it is one of the most extensive parks in the region, and there are numerous trails for hiking, cycling, and nature-walking.
  2. If you time it right, be sure to check out the Ann Arbor Art Fair, which happens once a year in mid-July. Craving for some art and culture? This event showcases over 1,000 artists, musicians, and performers, making it one of the most exciting events of the summer.

Route 3: US-23 S and M-52

Driving along US-23 S and M-52 will take you through the heart of southeast Michigan. While a distance of 60 miles, the slower speed limits and occasional stops can make the trip last around 1 hour and 20 minutes, but the scenery is well worth the investment of time.

Tips:

  1. There are many great opportunities to explore the outdoors along this route, including the Lillie Park in Pittsfield Township and the Hudson Mills Metropark. The latter has a vast array of trails, perfect for cycling and hiking.
  2. If you're looking for a quirky dining adventure, stop at the Smokehouse 52 BBQ in Chelsea. Featuring authentic Southern-style cuisine, the slow-cooked brisket and delicious side dishes are a definite treat.
