How Long Does It Take to Drive From Barcelona to Valencia?

If you're planning a trip from Barcelona to Valencia, you're probably wondering how long it will take to reach your destination. The good news is that there are several routes to choose from, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at some of the fastest and slowest routes between these two cities, as well as the time it takes to drive each one.

Fastest Routes

If speed is your top priority, there are a few different routes you can take. One of the fastest is via the AP-7 toll road, which takes you from Barcelona to Valencia in around 3 hours and 50 minutes under optimal driving conditions. This route covers a distance of approximately 350 kilometers and offers beautiful coastal views, as well as plenty of rest stops along the way.

Another fast option is to take the C-32 highway south to the N-340, which leads all the way to Valencia. This route is slightly longer, covering a distance of roughly 360 kilometers. However, it tends to be less busy than the toll road and offers some stunning scenery as well. Driving from Barcelona to Valencia via this route takes around 4 hours and 20 minutes.

Slowest Routes

If you have plenty of time and want to enjoy the journey between Barcelona and Valencia, there are also slower, more scenic routes you can take. One option is to travel via the AP-2 and A-23 highways, which take you through the mountains and valleys of Aragon. This route covers a distance of roughly 490 kilometers and takes around 6 hours to drive under normal traffic conditions.

Another option if you have more time and want to explore some of Spain's smaller towns is to take the N-II highway. This route is over 500 kilometers long and takes around 7 hours to drive. However, it offers plenty of opportunities to stop off and explore local attractions or try some of the region's delicious cuisine.

Traffic Considerations

Of course, the actual driving time between Barcelona and Valencia can vary depending on a number of factors. Heavy traffic, road closures, and accidents can all lead to longer journey times. On the other hand, lighter traffic can mean you reach your destination in less time than expected.

If you're driving during peak hours, you can expect the journey to take longer than it would during off-peak times. Rush hour in both Barcelona and Valencia tends to be around 8-9am and 5-6pm on weekdays, so avoiding these times if possible can help you shave some time off your journey.

In general, it's a good idea to allow at least an extra half hour of driving time for every hour of travel, just to be on the safe side. With this in mind, you can plan your journey from Barcelona to Valencia with confidence, knowing roughly how long it will take and what routes to consider.
